I bought this tent (which I've named Starfish because there's a star on the ceiling when you set it up) about 15 years ago. I've used it in the mountains and on the coasts.It is waterproof even without the rainfly/vestibule.If camping in hot weather, you probably should skip the rainfly unless you're expecting really bad weather. It gets hot, and the tent is waterproof without the rainfly.My most memorable camping trip that proved the value of this tent was on a beach with extremely high winds. My spouse and I had gone into town, and when we came back, we were quite shocked to see ALL of our camping neighbor's tents rolling down the beach or collapsed. We were pretty freaked out about what we'd find...but when we rolled up to camp we found Starfish there, steady and barely moving in the high winds.Honestly, this thing is a tank. I'm just now, after many years of heavy use, looking for one new pole that has a weakened elastic connection.When I bought it all those years ago, it was around 800 bucks. It looks like the price has almost doubled.It usually takes us about 20 minutes to put up and 5 or 10 to take down depending on how many stakes we've used.Like most 4 season tents, you can't stand up in it. It is roomy, and we usually put a queen-sized mattress and our gear in it.When you don't have to use the rainfly, the abundance of windows make the views amazing.

Five men and maybe a dog ,depending on how high you're going,don't want to be stepping all over each other in a tent not big enough to get comfortable in.Especially after a hard day on the trail or climb,that plus the fact the "Stormking" offers more than adequate storage space in a big vestibule and corners of the tent.

I own several MSR tents and I am a fan of their gear and have been out camping for the last 30 years and have had hundreds of tents. Having said that, I have to say I was a bit disappointed in this test - especially for a thousand bucks (for that I have to go with 2 stars). I don't feel the quality isn't the same as on the HP line of the hubba tents, there really is a lack of "operations" space inside the tent since its a dome, its considerably more difficult to set up solo than the Motha hubba, and it just doesn't "pack" well. By that I mean that its odd shape makes the rolled shape of the tent uneven and bulky, and it weights a ton compared to the Mutha Hubba. I have a old 3 man canvas tent that is about the same weight-space (rolled) dimensions. If you have a Sherpa, or a pack mule (and a thousand bucks to burn) then this is your tent.
